How to teach the lesson

Start with a simple discussion

Ask children what they think a plant needs to grow and where plants come from. Let them answer freely before introducing the idea that every plant begins as a seed.

Explain the life cycle simply

Introduce the idea of seed, sprout, growing plant, and mature plant. Keep the explanation visual, simple, and age-appropriate.

Plant together

Guide children step by step as they add soil, place the seed, cover it gently, and water it carefully. This is the most exciting part of the lesson.

Observe over time

Return to the plant regularly so children can notice change, talk about what they see, and draw or write simple observations.

Step-by-step lesson flow

Part 1: Warm-up and introduction

Start by gathering the children and showing them a packet of seeds, a pot, and some soil. Ask questions such as: What do you think this seed will become? Have you ever planted something before? What do plants need? Keep the conversation open and encouraging. The goal is to spark curiosity before the activity begins.

Part 2: Teach the plant life cycle in a child-friendly way

Explain that plants begin as seeds. When a seed is given the right conditions, it begins to grow. First it starts beneath the soil, then a small sprout appears, then leaves begin to grow, and over time the plant becomes bigger and stronger. Use gestures, visuals, or drawings on the board if helpful.

Part 3: Plant the seeds

Give each child or group their pot and planting materials. Let them fill the pot with soil, place the seed inside, cover it lightly, and water gently. Support them with simple instructions and remind them that plants need care, not too much water, and patience.

Part 5: Observe, record, and revisit

Over the next days or weeks, revisit the plant regularly. Students can draw what they see, describe changes, compare one plant to another, and talk about what helped the plant grow. This is where the lesson becomes ongoing, meaningful, and memorable.
