The UAE is more than skyscrapers and shopping malls. Look a little closer and you'll find organic farms blooming in the desert, lush botanical gardens in the middle of a city, and nature pavilions that stop children in their tracks. Here are five of the best gardening and nature experiences in the UAE — and how to bring that spark home.
Whether you're a family looking for a meaningful day out, a teacher planning an educational trip, or simply someone who wants to show children that the UAE is far greener than it looks — this list is for you.
Terra is unlike anything else in the UAE. Set within a striking net-zero pavilion at Expo City Dubai, it takes visitors on an immersive journey through forests and oceans, exploring how our everyday choices shape the planet. The experience is part science museum, part botanical garden, part call to action — and it's extraordinary for children.
The 29,000 sqm botanical garden is home to over 100 native plant species. The pavilion's hands-on exhibits bring concepts like pollination, ecosystems, and sustainability to life in ways that genuinely capture young imaginations. Terra also regularly runs workshops including terrarium making, mindful gardening, and seed planting — making it one of the most educationally rich nature experiences available in the UAE today.
For schools, Terra offers dedicated educational programmes and birthday packages. It's also home to a rooftop terrace restaurant serving plant-forward meals — so the whole day can be spent there without needing to leave.
Tucked between Dubai and Al Ain amidst the red desert dunes of Al Shuwaib, Emirates Bio Farm is the UAE's largest privately-owned organic farm — and one of the most memorable family days out in the country. Spanning 250,000 square metres, it's a fully working farm that also operates as an educational visitor centre.
At weekends, families can hop aboard a tractor tour through the fields, harvesting vegetables directly from the ground. Children get to feed goats and chickens, explore the greenhouse, and eat at the on-site Farmer's Table restaurant — where every dish is made from produce harvested that very morning. The contrast of lush green fields against the desert dunes is genuinely breathtaking.
Farm visits are priced at around AED 50 per adult, with children under 3 entering free. The ticket is fully redeemable on farm shop purchases on weekdays — making it excellent value for a family trip. Weekends require advance booking.
Over 150 million flowers, arranged across 72,000 square metres into castles, aeroplanes, and giant sculptures — Dubai Miracle Garden is one of those places that has to be seen to be believed. Now in its 14th season, it remains one of the most visited outdoor attractions in the entire Middle East, and it's easy to see why.
For younger children especially, walking through floral tunnels and discovering oversized installations at every turn is pure magic. The Garden's 14th season (open until May 31, 2026) has introduced a new children's section with a miniature train and bumper cars. Children under 12 currently receive free entry — making this an accessible family outing for UAE residents.
While Miracle Garden is more of a visual spectacle than a hands-on gardening experience, it sparks something important in children: a genuine sense of awe at what plants and flowers can become. That sense of wonder is exactly where a love of gardening begins.
Nestled in the Hajar Mountains, Hatta is one of Dubai's best-kept secrets — and within it, the Hatta Honeybee Garden and Discovery Centre is the first facility of its kind in the MENA region. Spread across 16,000 square metres surrounded by native trees including Ghaf and Sidr, it offers guided tours, hands-on workshops, and close-up observation of real beehives.
For children, learning about pollinators and their role in the ecosystem is one of the most powerful nature lessons available. The centre explains the lifecycle of bees, how they produce honey, and why they're essential to the food we eat — all in a beautiful mountain setting that feels worlds away from the city.
Hatta itself is worth the journey: the dam, the heritage village, the mountain trails, and the calm of the Hajar landscape make it a full day — or even a weekend — escape. Located just 115km from Dubai, it's reachable in about 90 minutes.
Every item on this list is wonderful — but they all share the same limitation: they end when you leave. Number 5 on our list is the experience that keeps going. The Kids Garden DIY Grow Kit brings the joy of gardening directly into your home or classroom, giving children their own seed to plant, their own soil to mix, and their own plant to watch grow — day by day, leaf by leaf.
Each kit contains a coco peat soil disc, seeds (choose from Basil, Mimosa, or Cherry Radish), a pot, and a spray bottle. Everything is included and designed to work in the UAE's indoor environment — no garden, no outdoor space, and no gardening experience required. Children aged 3 and up can do it almost independently, with just a little guidance from a parent or teacher.
It's also the ideal follow-up gift after visiting any of the experiences above. Bring home a Grow Kit after a day at Emirates Bio Farm or Terra, and suddenly the child who spent the day watching things grow gets to grow something themselves.
💡 A pattern worth noticing: Every experience on this list shares a common thread — children who engage with nature hands-on are more curious, more calm, and more connected. Whether it's harvesting a radish at Emirates Bio Farm or watching their own Basil sprout on the windowsill, the effect is the same. Start small. The love of growing grows too.
After visiting one of these experiences, keep the momentum going. Our School Holiday Gardening Project gives teachers and parents a ready-made framework: children plant a Kids Garden Grow Kit, track their plant's progress in the Plant My Day Journal for 14 days, and return to school with something real to share. No prep needed.
🌱 Free: Plant My Day Journal
The perfect companion for any of these experiences. Children track their plant's journey day by day — drawing, writing, and celebrating every new leaf. Download it free, pair it with a Grow Kit, and the experience continues long after the visit ends.

From the botanical gardens of Expo City to the sunflower fields of Al Shuwaib, the UAE offers families and children genuinely extraordinary ways to connect with nature. The best gardening experience, though, might be the simplest one: a child, a small pot, a few seeds, and the patience to wait and watch.
We hope this list inspires your next family outing — and that a little of that green magic finds its way home with you. If it does, we'd love to see it. Tag us on Instagram at @kidsgardenuae 🌱
